The hotel would be part of a multi-use commercial and residential project proposed by Resort Properties Corp. on 22 acres on the east side of Virginia 122, half a mile north of Hales Ford Bridge.
The proposal, which also includes a fast-food restaurant, an office and retail complex, and 48 two-bedroom apartments, is subject to approval under Bedford County's land-use guidance system.
If approval is granted, Resort Properties has a contract to purchase the land from Thomas T. Meador and Roy Z. Meador of Moneta.
Stanley Danburg, president of Resort Properties, said he hoped to attract a national chain hotel to offer modestly priced kitchenettes to families and fishermen. Target in-season rates would be $49 per night.
The Meador property has limited water frontage but enough for a boat-launching ramp, he said.
A "compatibility" hearing for the Resort Properties project is scheduled for 7 p.m. on July 2 at the Bedford County Courthouse.
Resort Properties has developed Winding Waters subdivision in Franklin County and the Waterways, a townhouse project in Bedford County.
Other commercial proposals received last week include:
Shredded Products Corp. requests permission to build an industrial landfill on 180 vacant acres near Virginia 745 and 746. A compatibility hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. June 18 at the Bedford Educational Center.
Bravo Gymnastics requests permission to build a instructional school in a building now used as a dance hall on 6 1/2 acres on Virginia 704 near Virginia 643. A compatibility meeting is to be held with the project's developer and neighbors at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the courthouse.
Compatibility hearings are part of Bedford County's 8-month-old zoning ordinance, which is the first of its kind in Virginia.
The ordinance allows each development proposal to be considered individually. It takes into consideration a point score, which attempts to judge a project's compatibility to the county's comprehensive plan and neighbors' reaction to it. Project scores are not available until a project is advertised for public hearing.
Projects go though a compatibility meeting with neighbors and a public hearing with the planning commission and either the county supervisors or the board of zoning appeals. The planning commission makes a recommendation, and the supervisors or zoning board make a final decision.
Other projects working their way through the process include:
Alan C. Baker requests permission to build a three detached townhouses on 2 acres on Kasey's Lakeview Drive off Virginia 122. No consensus was reached at a compatibility hearing Monday. A public hearing is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. June 19 at the Bedford County Courthouse.

The project received a score of 63.9 out of a total 200 for its compatibility with the county's comprehensive plan, and a consensus was reached at a meeting with neighbors of the project. Planning Commission on Tuesday recommended approval. The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to act Monday.
