CONGRESSMAN BEATEN ON WASHINGTON STREET

Rep. Gerry Studds was beaten on a Washington street corner by two men looking for "something to do," a Secret Service spokesman said Friday.

A spokesman for the Massachusetts Democrat said, "Gerry was mugged and beaten up pretty bad, but the bottom line is he's OK."

Studds, 53, is one of two congressmen who has publicly stated he is homosexual, but spokesman Stephen Schwadron said there was no indication that was a motive for the attack. - Associated Press
