OBIT VESS, M.

Mary Steele Vess, age 89, died Friday in Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Roanoke. She was the widow of Malcolm H. Vess, who preceded her in death in 1948. Mrs. Vess was born in Alleghany County on October 5, 1900, a daughter of the late Walter Hamilton Steele and Alsabetha Bartley Steele. She was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. Mrs. Vess is survived by two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Fred (Nellie) Landrum and Mrs. Pauline R. Steele, both of Covington. She was preceded in death by one son, Frank M. Vess in 1945, three sisters and one brother. The funeral service will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Kelly Dampeer officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 at Loving Funeral Home, Covington.
