Frederick (Fred) D. Dalton, age 89, of Rt. 3, Wytheville, the Piney Community, died Saturday at his residence. He was retired from the New Jersey Zinc. Co. and was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and a member of the Piney Ruritan Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Jones Dalton, a grandson, Tim Dalton, a son-in-law, Jack Aker, and a sister, Fannie Jones. He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Viola and Harry (Sonny) Aker; and Mrs. Jack (Margie) Aker, both of Rt. 3, Wytheville; one son and daughter-in-law, W. Thomas (Tom) and Josephine Dalton of Rt. 3, Wytheville; four grandchildren, Dewey Aker, Mike Aker, Freddie Dalton, Kathy D. Haga; eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Carrico officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday or at the residence at any time. The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Lead Mines Rescue Squad. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of arrangements.
