POLICE SEEK IDENTITY OF MAN HIT BY CRUISER

Investigators searched Saturday for the identity of a man who was struck and killed by a Frederick County sheriff's office cruiser.

The man was walking in the middle of the southbound lanes of U.S. 522 just north of the city when he was struck about 2:30 a.m. by a cruiser driven by reserve deputy Dennis Hibbard, state police Sgt. H.J. Turner said.

The victim was carrying no wallet or identification, Turner said.

"No charges are contemplated. The accident appeared to be unavoidable," Turner said. State police are investigating the accident.

"No one has reported him missing here. And no one has come in here [who recognized the dead man]," Turner said. - Associated Press
