The technicality they would be concerned with is funneling aid and technology to the U.S.S.R. By God, socialism is going to work in Russia if it takes every penny these leftists can scrounge from capitalist America!
Because of the massive 45-year coverup by our own "free press," the U.S.S.R. was built up in the minds of the American people as a superpower that could wipe us out in a flash with nuclear weapons. The reality (disclosed by the proposed development of the Strategic Defense Initiative) is that the U.S.S.R. has always been a creaking, Third World economy barely into the 20th century.
Today it is an illegal empire, a dinosaur from the 19th century, crumbling into ethnic disputes and factions. Gorbachev is detested by his own people because he's a sham. In five years of absolute control, he has done nothing but talk about the real suffering and deprivation of his own people. Why are our news media so charmed and enchanted with him when his own people despise him?
Suppose you gave a parade and nobody came? That's what happened at the latest summit. When one turned off the television set, the silence was deafening. Nobody was out in the street celebrating.
Fact is, the media goofed and their credibility with Americans is zilch. After 35 years of the undivided attention of the American public, they've lost it but good this time. People are beginning to boast about how long it's been since they watched the news on television.
The only part that isn't laughable is the increasing cynicism and apathy among the young for authority and leadership of any kind. After being told for 30 years by the media and the education establishment that the system is rotten to the core and that all elected officials are potential crooks, they are beginning to believe it and do not support the system with enthusiasm. If this attitude expands, law and order will break down and anarchy, the fatal disease of civilization, will take over. ALICE H. MOYLAN ROANOKE
