OBIT BATES, I.

Ilona Wertz Bates, age 78, of Roanoke died Sunday, June 10, 1990, in a local hospital. She was a member of Villa Heights Baptist Church, a former employee of American Viscose Corporation, and a retired Sears employee. She is survived by her husband, Garland M. Bates; two daughters, Eloise B. Price, Richmond; Phyllis B. Robinson, Silver Springs, Md.; two sons, John G. Bates, Richmond; Charles V. Bates, Roanoke; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Ora W. Arnold, Salem. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's North Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, with the Rev. Harold C. Lewis, the Rev. J. Landon Maddex, the Rev. Frank W. Feather, and the Rev. Jack M.D. Price officiating. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends at Oakey's North Chapel from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday.
