Smithfield Foods Inc., parent of Bunker Hill Packaging Corp. of Bedford, said earnings dropped about $2.7 million in the past fiscal year because of smaller hog supplies and excess slaughter capacity in the pork packaging industry. The company said its net income for the year ending April 29 was $7.1 million, down from $9.8 million, though sales rose to $853.4 million from $774.8 million.
Korean Air signed a $4.8 billion order Monday for 23 Boeing 747-400s, all to be delivered by the end of the decade. Frank Shrontz, Boeing chairman and chief executive officer, said traffic growth in the Pacific has been higher than in either the United States or Europe.
