MAYOR'S ATTENDANCE STILL PERFECT

Mayor Allen O. Woody Jr. attended his 286th consecutive monthly Town Council meeting Monday night, completing a 24-year record of perfect attendence at regularly scheduled meetings.

Woody, who turned 69 last week, will retire at the end of this month after four years on Town Council and 20 as mayor of this Franklin County town.

The local Chamber of Commerce and Jaycees honored Woody for his his public service.

"I don't believe there is a mayor in the United States who has had as fine as citizens to work with than I have had," Woody said.

Before his retirement, Woody will attend one more Town Council meeting, a budget hearing scheduled for June 18.

By his count, it will be his 323rd meeting - including all special meetings - since he took office in September 1966.
