NFL COURT CASE MOVED

A federal judge in Newark, N.J., told eight football players battling the NFL's free-agency system on antitrust grounds to argue their case in Minnesota, where a similar case has been proceeding since 1987.

U.S. District Judge John W. Bissell granted a request by league attorneys to transfer the case.

The players argue the current system is unfair because teams that could lose players to free agency can block a deal or demand compensation in the form of draft picks from the potential signing teams.

The players who filed suit are running back Freeman McNeil, New York Jets; defensive back Mark Collins and running back Lee Rouson, New York Giants; lineman Irv Eatman, Kansas City Chiefs; defensive lineman Niko Noga, Detroit Lions; quarterback Don Majkowsi, Green Bay Packers; defensive back Tim McDonald, Phoenix Cardinals; and lineman Dave Richards, San Diego Chargers.
