CITIZEN SURVEY WILL HELP UPDATE DUBLIN'S COMPREHENSIVE PLAN

Dublin residents are getting a chance to tell town officials what they like and don't like about their town and what it has to offer. The 33-question survey, mailed earlier this month, seeks citizen input on significant community issues.

The questionnaire will help regional and town officials to update the town's Comprehensive Plan. The plan is the basis for future land use, zoning and subdivision regulations.

The questionnaire - "Citizen Survey: Dublin in the Year 2000" - asks residents what they think of town services, economic development and recreation. It also has room for residents to freely express their thoughts on other areas. Survey responses are confidential.

Among questions included was this one involving possible town expansion:

"Do you feel that the town of Dublin should pursue a boundary change, to enhance service provision, stabilize the town tax base, increase the town's economic development potential or some other reason?"

Efforts last year by Dublin to take in more of Pulaski County were put on hold after angry response from residents in the affected areas.

Other questions ask how often people eat out, where they shop and what they think about new development.

The survey was developed by town officials and the New River Valley Planning District Commission.

The Planning Commission will have a public meeting July 31 in Dublin to discuss survey results and to talk with town residents about the Comprehensive Plan.

Town residents are asked to return surveys by June 18. Residents can mail surveys in an enclosed envelope or return them with their water bills.
