DUKAKIS' BOMB `JOKE' NOT FUNNY TO USAIR

USAir says it should have detained and questioned Gov. Michael Dukakis for joking as he boarded a plane that there could be a bomb in the luggage of a White House aide taking the same flight.

Dukakis made the comment Sunday night at Logan International Airport. Also on the flight was Republican Ron Kaufman, an aide to President Bush, said Patricia Goldman, a USAir spokeswoman in Arlington, Va.

Goldman said allowing Dukakis to board was an error in procedure, according to Federal Aviation Administration rules.

The governor, asked about the incident by reporters in Washington, said, "The humor of it was obvious to everyone who was there."
