COLOR THE SKY . . . FANCY

Kids in the '90s will have bolder, brighter Crayola crayons: fuchsia, dandelion and cerulean - a fancy word for sky blue.

Crayons in orange-red, violet-blue and other boring - er, simple - colors will fade into history.

For the first time since 1972, the company is adding eight colors and, for the first time since Crayola crayons were created in 1903, retiring eight others.

The company interviewed about 150 children aged 7 and under and learned that they wanted bolder, brighter colors, said a spokesman for the crayon maker.

Crayon packs with the new colors are expected to appear on store shelves in July.
