HOLLINS NAMES SEARCH COMMITTEE

A search committee has been formed to find a successor to Hollins College President Paula Brownlee, officials said Thursday, more than two months after she announced her resignation.

The Board of Trustees has yet to say who will run the school after Brownlee leaves Aug. 31 and before a new president is named. Brownlee, president since 1981, decided in May to leave for the top job with the Association of American Colleges in Washington.

"A notice sent out to the campus community said an announcement about the transition period between presidents will be made as soon as possible," a college spokeswoman said.

Trustee Chairman Sion Boney said the panel has been asked "to place a candidate before the board . . . no later than March 1, 1991, and earlier if possible."

Five college trustees and four representatives from the alumnae association, faculty and student body comprise the committee, which will be headed by trustee William Berry of Richmond. Roanoke's Bittle Porterfield III, president of Rice Management Co., also will be on the committee.
