What I do not understand was the inequitable reporting of the International Science and Engineering Fair held recently in Tulsa, Okla.
The more than 700 entires were required to have won honors in their respective states and countries. Jamie Turner worked two years on his project; a junior at Patrick Henry High and the Governor's School, he was named best in his category of more than 50 entries in the United States and 12 foreign countries. For this he received a short and obscure notice near the bottom of page 2 in the Virginia section of his hometown newspaper!
Foreign competition is acute in these fields at a time when we have a shortage of scientists and engineers at home, and fewer students pursuing these careers. Publicity to noteworthy accomplishments in public and private schools honors, encourages, edifies and enhances the image of our community. REGINA H. STUTTS ROANOKE
