PIZZA-WAR BANNERS A NUISANCE, DANGER

THANK GOODNESS there are marketing executives in this country like Roger Rydell. He is the director of public affairs for Pizza Hut who refuses to stoop to the banner-shaking tactics of Domino's Pizza. Rydell says the banners are a traffic hazard and do not project the image his company wants.

In a May 26 article in the Roanoke Times & World-News, Tracy Wimmer presented Domino's banner-shaking in a positive, festive light.

However, I have seen far too many negative instances. I have witnessed banner-shakers distracting motorists by yelling at passing cars. I have observed them standing dangerously close to the road, sometimes blocking the view of drivers. I even saw one young man who parked his truck in a grassy area near a very busy intersection; he attached his banner to the truck and was inside taking a snooze.

I wonder if Domino's executives consider how many people are turned off by such negative images as banner-shakers and recklessly fast delivery drivers. JEFFREY L. STONE SALEM
