ROANOKE TRIATHLETES COMPETE IN CHARLOTTE

Several Roanoke athletes took part Saturday in the Charlotte Bud Light Triathlon, featuring more than 700 competitors in a 1.5-kilometer swim, a 40k bike ride and a 10k run.

Steve Riddle finished first in his age group (25-29) and ninth overall in a time of 2 hours, 11 minutes and 2 seconds. Elizabeth Niles was fifth in her age group (25-29) in 2:36.

Other Roanoker finishers were Susie Boxley, Frank Boxley, Wendell Scott, Jim Dyerle, Carol Dyerle, T.K. Miller, John Pendleton, Fain Rutherford, Rand Garrett and Jim Frydl.

Thomas Huggins of Columbia, S.C., was the overall winner in 2:01:38. Leslie Fedon of Virginia Beach was the overall women's winner in 2:13:20. - Staff report
