GALAX SCHOOLS TO BAN TOBACCO FOR '90-91

Tobacco will be banned in Galax city schools for both students and teachers in the coming school year.

The Galax School Board had considered a plan banning tobacco products for students but giving employees a one-year phase-in period.

But it voted this month to extend the ban to staff members, too, while they are on duty or on school property. Smoking by the public at athletic events and other functions on school property will be allowed only in designated areas.
