Marcus Anthony Jackson, 18, was shot once in the right side of the chest shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday on the front porch of his home.
"He came in and he fell on the floor," said Tyrone Jackson, the victim's father. "I reached down and I grabbed his hand and he said, `Daddy, I love you,' and that was all."
The teen-ager died two hours later during surgery at Lynchburg General Hospital. The weapon, believed to be a semiautomatic pistol, had not been recovered.
Police said an argument began when several men walked onto the victim's property. The men then left, returning a short time later with a gun.
"They were unknown to the others at the house," said Lynchburg Police Cmdr. Earl Burnette. "An argument ensued between at least one of the suspects and the victim."
Tyrone Jackson said the men came to the party and began using vulgar language. He said he told them to leave and they did.
About 40 people, many of them E.C. Glass students, attended the party, which included a cookout on the lawn.
Jackson said shortly before the shooting, people began shouting that someone had a gun.
The younger Jackson was attending summer school to graduate in July. He planned to attend Central Virginia Community College in the fall, his father said.
