RADIO OPERATORS HOLD EVENT

Amateur radio operators throughout the United States will participate in the national Field Day event Saturday and Sunday, which is sponsored by the Amateur Radio Relay League. The Southwestern Virginia Wireless Association Inc. will be participating in the annual event at its command post atop Mill Mountain. Events begin at 2 p.m. Saturday and end at 2 p.m. Sunday.

One purpose of the event is to test the preparedness of Amateur Radio Emergency Services' operators and equipment to furnish effective communications in case of local or national emergencies. A practice drill, in which each group is required to communicate and log particular information with as many stations as possible during the 24-hour period, will be held.

The public is invited to visit, observe and ask questions of the licensed radio amateurs. For more information, call 989-1090 or 989-4334.
