`WALK-A-DOG-ATHON' SATURDAY AT VA. TECH

Highland Kennels in Dublin is sponsoring a "Walk-a-dog-athon" Saturday at Virginia Tech.

The event is a five-mile dog walk to benefit Leader Dogs for the Blind. It begins at 8 a.m. at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and lasts until noon. It will be followed at 2 by a presentation by Bill Hadden of Radford and his leader dog, Major.

Hadden, who is blind, and his dog are graduates of a leader-dog training program in Rochester, Michigan.

There also will be a drawing for door prizes and a raffle. Door prizes will be a tape player and a gift certificate for brunch-for-two at Mountain Lake Resort.

First prize in the raffle is a lawn mower, donated by the Humane Society of Montgomery County. Second prize is a weekend for two at Mountain Lake. Tickets may be obtained at The Village Groomer in Blacksburg and Highland Kennels.
