CLOYDS MOUNTAIN RE-ENACTMENT PLANNED

Civil War re-enactors from Virginia and other states will meet in Newbern Saturday and Sunday to recreate the Battle of Cloyds Mountain and other Civil War activities.

The Civil War Weekend is held at Wilderness Road Regional Museum. Admission to the museum is free. The public can observe camp life Saturday, and living history demonstrations on the museum grounds, then at 5:30 p.m. enjoy an hour of Appalachian music by Idlewilde, a Floyd-County foursome.

Kathie Ward will demonstrate old weaving patterns on the museum's east veranda. Confederate bonds, money, letters, diaries, photographs and other memorabilia will be on display in museum showcases.

Sunday at 11 a.m., Wayne Linkous, a minister from Christiansburg, will conduct a worship service at Newbern Christian Church. At 12:30 p.m, a replica Enfield rifle will be raffled at the museum.

The climax of the weekend will be the 2 p.m. re-enactment of the battle on Tabor Farm, within walking distance of the museum. Admission is $1 for adults and 50 cents for children under 12.
