Mr. Arden Wendell Spence, age 48, of 615 Knollwood Drive, Mt. Airy, N.C. died at his home on Tuesday afternoon after suffering a heart attack. Mr. Spence was born in Carroll Co., Va. October 13, 1941 the son of Euell and Carrie Bowman Spence. He was operations manager for Proctor Silex of Mt. Airy, N.C., was a member of Temple Baptist Church of Mt. Airy, and was on the Salvation Army Board of Mt. Airy, N.C. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Betty Sawyers Spence of the home; one daughter, Miss Charlotte Spence of Winston Salem, N.C.; three sons, Phillip Spence of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; Garrett Spence of Mt. Airy, N.C.; and Patrick Spence of Ft. Campbell, Ky., mother, Mrs. Carrie Bowman Spence of Dugspur, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Mae Webb of Laurel Fork, Va.; and Mrs. Carolyn Sue Stanley of Meadows of Dan, Va.; five brothers, John and Daniel Spence of Hillsville; Bryun Spence of Dugspur, Va; David and J.D. Spence of Meadows of Dan, Va. Funeral services will be held Thursday 2:00 p.m. at the Temple Baptist Church with services conducted by Rev. Teague Groce and Rev. Bryan Childress with interment to follow in the Spence Family Cemetery at Dugspur, Va. His body will remain at the Moody Funeral Home of Mt. Airy until time to be taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
