\ James Rodney Helms, Sr., age 78, of Catawba, died Tuesday, June 19, 1990. He was a member of Basham Primitive Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Baker Bros. Inc. He was a son of the late Elder John P. and Clara Austin Helms. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Helms; two sons and daughters-in-law, James R. Jr. and Mary W. Helms, Roanoke; John W. (Jay) and Laura W. Helms, Stewartsville; one daughter, Mary Gail Tuck, Catawba; four grandchildren, Ruth Ann, Chad, Jimmy, and Jayme Helms; one brother, Johnny C. Helms, Salem; five sisters, Mrs. Nancy H. Perdue; Mrs. Tiny H. Flippen; Mrs. Hazel H. Bryant; Mrs. Dottie H. Terrell; and Mrs. Pearl H. Pendleton, all of Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's North Chapel on Friday, June 22, 1990 at 1:00 p.m. with Elder Junior Conner, Elder Amos Hash, Elder Raymond Goad and Elder C. B. Davis officiating. Burial will be in Basham Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call at Oakey's North Chapel.
