RELIGION BRIEFS

JOINT JEWISH SERVICES are planned in July and August at Beth Israel and Temple Emanuel congregations. Starting July 6 at 8:15 p.m. Rabbis Jerome Fox and Frank Muller will speak on aspects of Eastern Religions, Christianity and Islam. The August series will cover Jewish Science, New Age Judaism and Humanistic Judaism. The services will alternate between the houses of worship on Franklin Road and Brambleton Avenue Southwest. \ A WEDNESDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY on the book of First Corinthians has begun at Cave Spring United Methodist Church, Hazel Drive near Colonial Avenue Southwest. It is from 7 to 8 through Aug. 22. The Rev. Linda Kusse-Wolfe is the leader. Call 774-3148 to register for the free program.

\ LOVE IN ACTION will be the theme of vacation Bible school at downtown Roanoke's First Baptist Church. It will be Monday through Friday mornings from 9 to noon. The school is open to children born before Dec. 31, 1986, with the maximum age being completion of sixth grade. Call 344-6242 for more information.

\ FLAME IN THE WIND, a film about a young man's spiritual conflicts in the time of the Spanish inquisition, will be shown Sunday at 6 p.m. at Brambleton Baptist Church, 3634 Brambleton Ave. S.W. It is free.

\ THE VOICES OF YOUTH, a choir of 40 United Methodist high school students from throughout Virginia, will perform Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at South Roanoke United Methodist Church, 2330 S. Jefferson St.

\ ST. GERARD'S CATHOLIC CHURCH at Eighth Street and Orange Avenue Northwest has changed its Sunday night Mass hour to 5. The new time will be in effect indefinitely.

\ "LIVING IN THE POWER" is the theme of a program Saturday at 5 p.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1014 Norfolk Ave. S.W. The men's choruses and several soloists from Macedonia and Jerusalem churches will perform. Teresa Kasey will be the speaker for the program, which is sponsored by Jerusalem's Men's Day Committee.
