No one was injured, and the fire apparently did not cause serious damage.
Police said officers on patrol about 2 a.m. noticed a fire at 1771 Downing St. N.W. An occupant of the apartment told police that two men had come to her door and asked to use her bathroom.
Once inside, the men began to smoke crack cocaine, the woman told police. Hearing shots fired nearby, the men became paranoid and one left, police said.
When the occupant went back into her apartment, she saw that a bed had been set on fire.
Police charged Willie L. Jeffries with arson.
