COMMUNITY TO MARCH AGAINST DRUG ABUSE

A march against drugs will be held in Northwest Roanoke on Saturday, June 30.

The march is being sponsored by the Northwest Neighborhood Improvement Council and the Rutherford Avenue Block Club.

The organizers say the march is a step toward offering alternatives to black youths who feel they are caught in dead-end situations.

They are inviting youth groups, scout troops and choirs to join the march.

The march will begin at 10 a.m. in the field at Madison Avenue and Gainsboro Road. It will head up Rutherford Avenue, turn left onto 5th Street, then onto Fairfax Avenue and then turn left onto Harrison Avenue.

It will end at the Harrison Museum of African American Culture.
