EX-LAW OFFICER CHARGED WITH DESTRUCTION

A former town and county law-enforcement officer has been charged with destruction of property and sent to Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute in Marion for observation.

Jackie Kitts, 41, of Wytheville, was arrested Thursday night in the Rye Cove section of Wythe County after a resident reported someone driving a pickup truck close to a home.

Kitts was charged with property destruction involving a fence and spring. He was also charged with doing an estimated $1,000 worth of damage to the police car in which he was placed, by breaking a window and damaging a door.

He was sent to the state hospital after an evaluation by Mount Rogers Mental Health personnel.
