SEEMS CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT NEEDED

I WOULD like to express my opposition to any and all defacement of the American flag. As a veteran, I strongly feel that the flag is a symbol of all that is instilled in every American. It deserves protection by law.

It has been a symbol of our freedom and the liberties we enjoy every day. It has always been the inspiration our countrymen have looked to for strength to carry on in battle and to remind us all of how privileged we are to live in a free and democratic society.

There have been laws passed to protect our flag. Somehow they seem to be challenged as unconstitutional. It is unfortunate, but it seems that a constitutional amendment may be necessary to keep our flag waving freely and with dignity. A. FRANK CUPP JR. ROANOKE
