CANNONS BLANK BUCS 2-0

The Salem Buccaneers got solid pitching from Steve Buckholz on Saturday night, but were held to three hits and lost 2-0 to the Prince William Cannons in Carolina League baseball.

Prince William starter Jim Wiley (3-5) shut down the Bucs on one hit through eight innings, walking two and striking out seven. Mike Gardella pitched the ninth, giving up two hits and striking out three, to gain the save.

The Cannons scored the only runs they needed in the second inning. Russell Davis and Sherman Obando singled, and both scored on a double by David Howell.

Buckholz (6-5) went the distance for Salem. He gave up five hits and three walks, striking out three.

\ BUCSHOTS: In the series finale today at 2 p.m., the Bucs will send Stan Fansler to the mound against Cullen Hartzog.
