Macy Lewey McLaugherty, age 95, died June 23, 1990, in a Blacksburg hospital. Mrs. McLaugherty was born in Bland County, Va. on January 14, 1895, and was a daughter of the late Charles E. and Mary DeHeart Lewey. She was a member of the Pearisburg Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of the Giles County school system, having retired in 1964 after teaching for over 47 years. Macy McLaugherty Elementary School is named in her honor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. McLaugherty Sr.; a son, Charles A. McLaugherty Jr.; and a granddaughter, Nancy McLaugherty. She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. H.B. McLaugherty, Belspring, Va.; Mrs. W.G. Cunningham Jr., Plant City, Fla.; Mrs. William G. Leece, Tazewell, Va.; two grandsons, Dr. Charles A. McLaugherty, III, Alliance, Ohio; S. Hoge McLaugherty, Richmond; two granddaughters, Anna and Helen McLaugherty, Alliance, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Givens Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert Putt and the Rev. Alan Harvey officiating. Burial will be in Birchlawn Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pearisburg Baptist Church.
