William Edward (Pat) Patterson of Roanoke, died Saturday in a local hospital. He was a graduate of East Tennessee State University. He was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne and was involved in the Normandy Invasion. He received two purple hearts and numerous military honors. He was well known in the automobile field in the Roanoke Valley for many years. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark M. and Karen D. Patterson and W. Matthew Patterson and Karla W. Patterson, all of Roanoke; two sisters, Ruth P. Cobb, Middlebrook, Va.; and Ann K. Fletcher of Hendersonville, N. C.; a sister-in-law, Mettie Patterson, Richmond; five grandchildren, Jolan, Amanda, Ryan, Charles and Grayson Patterson. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Evergreen Burial Park with Dr. Harry Y. Gamble officiating. The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday.
