SUBMARINE LAUNCHED FROM ELECTRIC BOAT

A submarine dubbed the USS Alexandria was launched Saturday from General Dynamics' Electric Boat Division.

On the second try, a bottle of champagne was broken across the bow of the submarine. The ceremony was attended by officials from the U.S. Navy, the state of Virginia and the state of Louisiana. Both states have a city called Alexandria.

Rep. Stanford E. Parris, R-Fairfax County, was the principal speaker at the ceremony. Also speaking were the mayor of Alexandria, Va., James P. Moran Jr., and the mayor of Alexandria, La., Edward G. Randolph, Jr.
