FIREFIGHTER TREATED FOR SMOKE INHALATION

A Roanoke firefighter suffered smoke inhalation Sunday when his air pack malfunctioned while fighting an attic fire on Windsor Avenue Southwest, authorities said.

Alfred Willoughby "had to get out real fast and got a couple of breaths of smoke," Captain John Lucas said, but he was unhurt otherwise.

Willoughby was treated at a hospital and released.

The fire, which did an estimated $500 damage, was probably caused by a short in an attic fan, authorities said.
