Blacksburg scored 242.5 total points to 217.5 for the Spartans, who made up 17.5 points in the spring. Salem had 120 points thanks to strong boys' and girls' tennis plus softball, while Blacksburg had 102.5 thanks to boys' and girls' track, and soccer.
The contest is open to all public schools in Virginia and is co-sponsored by the Virginia High School League and Central Fidelity Bank.
Frank Cox High of Virginia Beach with 240 points won the Group AAA competition. Cave Spring was the highest Timesland team, finishing in a tie for 16th place with Heritage.
Sussex Central with 227.5 points took Group A honors and Glenvar finished fourth with 127.5 as the best in Timesland.
