COMPETITION STRONG IN CHARITY GOLF EVENT

The American Cancer Society Captain's Choice golf tournament was held at the Blue hills Country Club on Monday.

It was hoped the event would raise at least $12,000.

The Roanoke Land and Auction team won the men's Division I competition after a playoff with runner-up Roanoke Forest Products. Both teams had net scores of 55.

Salem Ready Mix won the Division II title and Wayne Ayers Tax Service took home the Division III crown.

The top finishers:

Men's Division I - x-Roanoke Land and Auction (George McConnell, Bugs Tickle, Chris Vushong, Chris Byrd) 55; Roanoke Forest Products (Tony Hodges, Dick morgan, Doug Kenney, Doug Ruth) 55.

Men's Division II - Salem Ready Mix (Horace Thomas, Ron Cronise, Wayne Gaabo, Bill Stephenson) 58; Community Hospital of Roanoke (Joe Arch, Dave Kessell, Bee Hopkins, Ken Crommett) 59; Shelton Witt Equipment Co. (Tim Shelton, Danny Jarrett, Greg Brooks, Jim Bishop) 59.

Men's Division III - Wayne Ayers Tax Service (Ayers, Lawhorn, Mosser, Pierce) 62.
