CLINCH VALLEY SET FOR FOOTBALL IN 1991

Intercollegiate football will be started at Clinch Valley College in 1991, with the funding coming from alumni and friends of the University of Virginia branch school.

Chancellor Jim Knight said no state funds will be used to support intercollegiate athletics at the college. Additional gifts are anticipated for the program, however.

Home games will be played at area high school stadiums until the college can build its own.

The college's expanded sports program also will include cross country for men and women, starting in September. Women's volleyball will be added in the fall of 1991, and women's softball in the spring of 1992. - Southwest Bureau
