Singing will come from the 108-voice Music for Americans Community Chorus under the direction of Stan Kingma, with audience participation encouraged. Actors from "1776," the play under way through July 8 at Mill Mountain Theatre, will perform two numbers, too.
The Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Victoria Bond, will provide uplifting music, and fireworks will begin about 9:30 p.m., weather permitting.
Only a deluge will postpone this event, admission to which is free.
Free shuttle buses will ply the routes between the stadium and Towers shopping center and the stadium and the Church Avenue parking garage beginning about 5:15 p.m.\ PARTY TIME: The Impressions and Gentlemen and Their Ladies will headline Thursday evening's Valleypointe After Hours beach-style music concert at the Valleypointe business park in Roanoke.
The show runs from 5 to 8:30 and proceeds benefit the Easter Seal Society of Virginia.\ IN THE MUSIC SHED: The Garth Newel Chamber Music Festival in Hot Springs will present a program Saturday afternoon at 5 that will feature works by Handel, Barber and Brahms.
Sunday afternoon at 3, an "Only in America" program will feature pieces by Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern and Samuel Barber.\ FUNKY BAGPIPES: Rare Air, a Canadian band, will perform at Lime Kiln Arts near Lexington Sunday night at 8. The group combines ancient Celtic and modern electric instruments to produce traditional Celtic music, jazz and world-funk.
For ticket information call 463-3074. Tonight at 8, the Kiln presents a preview of "Stonewall Country," the long-running, historical musical about Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. The production opens officially Saturday night at 8.\ FIREWORKS AT THE LAKE: Smith Mountain Lake State Park will be the scene of a Liberty Celebration on Tuesday night, starting with an hour of bluegrass music at 7.
Jettie Harris will then conduct the chorus in the "Liberty Cantata," complete with dramatic vignettes of American historical and folk characters.
Fireworks will follow.
The event is sponsored by the Smith Mountain Lake Partnership and the Smith Mountain Arts Council.
Admission is $5 per car. Picnicking is permitted.\ LUNCHTIME RAGTIME: "Let the Good Times Roll," a straw-hatted, garter-sleeved trio with a penchant for old-time tunes, will perform today at 12:15 p.m. at Crestar Plaza in Roanoke as part of the Brown Bag Arts series organized by the Arts Council of Roanoke Valley.
Admission is free.
The program will feature banjo, bass and accordion turning out such evergreens as "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy," "Give My Regards to Broadway" and "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."
Nobody will blame you for singing along.
