PORTERFIELD, I.

PORTERFIELD, IRA G.\ Ira Givens Porterfield, age 77, was DOA at a Blacksburg hospital Wednesday evening. A native of Newport, he is the son of the late George C. and Launa Lafon Porterfield. He was a retired employee of the Hurst-Celanese Fibers Company at Narrows. Surviving are his wife, Betsy Dowdy Porterfield; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Debbie L. Porterfield, Newport; one grandson, Jared W. Porterfield, Newport; one sister, Hallie P. Link, Roanoke, Va. He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Williams-Jamison-Kendall Chapel, Pembroke, with the Rev. Eddie Kendall and the Rev. James Belcher officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday evening. Burial will be in the Porterfield Cemetery at Newport. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the Giles County Rescue Squad or the Sherry Memorial Christian Church.
