WINSLOWS' TO CLOSE; MARKET EATERY SOLD

Roanoke restaurateur Jeff Winslow is giving up two of his three downtown eateries today. Winslows', the dining room in the Patrick Henry Hotel, will close tonight. Winslow said he couldn't reach an agreement with the new owners of the hotel for continuation of the lease.

Linda Copenhaver, spokeswoman for Patrick Henry Hotel Investors, said the owners are seeking another restaurant operator. The investment group is a subsidiary of a New York company that in May paid $3 million for the Jefferson Street property and announced plans to remodel it.

Also today, Winslow said, he will finalize the sale of First Street Express, a stall in the Roanoke Market building food court. The buyer is David Estrada of Roanoke.

Winslow said he would concentrate his efforts on his third restaurant, 309 First Street, in the Market area. - Staff report
