HONDURAN WORKERS STRIKE BANANA GIANT

More than 10,000 workers seeking higher wages struck the U.S. banana giant Chiquita Brands International Inc. on Thursday. Tens of thousands of other workers threatened a nationwide strike in sympathy.

The president of the national legislature, Rodolfo Irias Navas, said labor unrest could destabilize Honduras, the poorest nation in the hemisphere after Haiti with an annual per capita income of only $740. - Associated Press
