Buchanan Town Council has granted a building permit to John and Pat Eubank for the construction of a modular home on a lot they own on Spottswood Avenue.
At the June 18 meeting, which was continued from the regular meeting June 11, council also granted a variance permitting the couple to change their land on Spottswood to four lots with 100-foot frontage, from the present division of five lots with 80-foot frontage, said Mayor Stull Carson.
"When they come back to develop the rest of the land, they'll have to provide us with an up-to-date subdivision request," Carson said.
"There will have to be a preliminary plat, and the development will have to be done according to the subdivision ordinance, which requires a multitude of things."
When the remaining land is ready to be developed, the Eubanks will have to request that it be approved as a subdivision before one can be built, Carson said.
"We granted them a variance or special exception because from the very beginning the whole area in question we think was subdivided incorrectly," he said.
