VELOSO WINS TENNIS EVENT

Antonette Veloso, seeded second, defeated top-seeded Dana Evans of Denton, Md., on Thursday to win the girls' 18-and-under Mid-Atlantic Tennis Association Summer Championship.

The standout from Vinton, Va., capped an easy run through the earlier rounds with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory in the final. Veloso then teamed with Jennifer Mowbray of Baltimore for a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Evans and Kimberly Nance of Midlothian in the doubles final. - Staff report
