The Bass Anglers Sportsman Society has rescinded recent 1990-91 rule changes that would have allowed women to fish in its tournaments.
"We are really responding to what the fishermen want. I think that says it all," said Helen Sevier, chief executive officer of the Montgomery, Ala.-based organization.
B.A.S.S. said it surveyed 790 members of the Association of B.A.S.S. Professionals and learned that 76.8 percent favored rescinding the rule.
About 100 of the country's top pros, and a number of their wives, signed a petition asking for a reversal of the ruling.
