COUNCIL APPROVES ROCKY MOUNT BUDGET

Town Council approved a $2.9 million budget for 1990-91 that includes health insurance benefits for retiring Mayor Allen O. Woody Jr. and his wife.

Council voted 3-1 with one abstention to approve the budget. Council member Wayne Cundiff dissented, and Hunt Cooper abstained.

After the vote, Woody blasted both Cundiff and Cooper in his final speech as mayor. Woody retires June 30 after nearly 20 years as the town's top elected official and de facto town manager.

The budget also includes a reserve of more than $8 million that is to be used to build a new wastewater treatment plant on the Pigg River.
