PERMIT ISSUED FOR NEW DEVELOPMENT

Franklin County has issued an earth-moving permit to Lakenheath, a Smith Mountain Lake development that will feature a private golf course and air strip.

Site work for the entrance and runway are scheduled to start in early July, according to a spokesman for the project.

Florida developer Bruce Nash recently paid $1 million for 300 acres for the project on the Pittsylvania-Franklin line, near the Water's Edge.
