NEW RIVER SEARCHED FOR DROWNING VICTIM

Rescue crews were searching late Friday for a person who apparently drowned in the New River near Glen Lyn.

A spokesman for the Giles County Rescue Squad said a swimmer witnessed the drowning about 6 p.m.

Rescue workers, police and firemen searched the area on foot and in boats until dark but did not find a body.

The spokesman said they had identified the potential victim, but could not release information until the family is notified.
