Mrs. Lois Electa Carlin Fisher, age 82, of Salem, died Saturday, June 30, 1990. She was the only child of Wildey J. and Anna Dickerson Carlin, born January 15, 1908. She attended public schools in Bowen, Illinois, and graduated valedictorian of her class from Bowen High School in 1926. She majored in foreign languages at Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois, and was a member of Phi Mu fraternity. She graduated Cum Laude from Knox in 1930, with special honors in Spanish. She attended Illinois Commercial College in Champagne, Illinois, 1931 to 1933, where she was both student and teacher. Lois was employed by the Chicago Association of Commerce and Industry from 1933 to 1942; by an airport striping company in West Port, Conn., in 1943; and by Standard Oil Company (Indiana) (Now Amoco Corporation) in Chicago from 1945 to 1967. She retired from Amoco in 1967, married Dr. Charles H. Fisher of New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1968. She lived in New Orleans until 1972 when she moved with her husband to Salem. In Salem, she was a member of the Town Club, Salem Historical Society and the Fortnightly Club of Roanoke College. Believing in education, Lois supported scholarships at both Roanoke College and Knox College. While a student at Knox, she traveled with fellow students and visited England, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. Since graduation, she traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, and Guatemala. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Charles Harold Fisher, Salem; four cousins, Dr. Carlin F. Gibbs, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; Dr. William H. Gumprecht, Wilmington, Delaware; Prof. Donald Gumprecht, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; Dr. Steven C. Gibbs, M.D., Mill Valley, Calif. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Lois Carlin Fisher Scholarship Fund, Roanoke College or the Lois Carlin Fisher Scholarship Fund, Knox College, or to your charity of choice. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
