Patricia Kluge, estranged wife of billionaire John W. Kluge, has been given the title to the couple's 45-room mansion, apparently as part of their divorce settlement, a newspaper reported Monday.

The Richmond News Leader said real-estate records in Charlottesville show that a 9.9-acre tract that includes the Albemarle House mansion was transferred June 13 to Patricia Kluge from JWK Properties, the corporate entity that controls the 10,000-acre Albemarle Farm estate.

The estate's golf course, stables, tennis court, conservatory and greenhouse appear not to be included.

A memorandum filed in Albemarle County Circuit Court provides for Patricia Kluge's use of the estate's private Roman Catholic chapel and its family crypt. JWK Properties also agreed not to build anything on the hill behind the house that would interfere with privacy or "reasonable enjoyment" of the property as long as Patricia Kluge is the owner.

In April, the Kluges announced an "amicable" separation that would lead to the end of their nine-year marriage. The divorce would be the third for John Kluge, 76, and the second for Patricia Kluge, 41.

The separation announcement included a statement that Kluge would move to Morven, a historic estate nearby.

Last fall, Forbes magazine estimated Kluge's worth at $5.2 billion, making him the richest man in America. Patricia Kluge reportedly will receive annually the interest on $1 billion - an estimated $85 million.

\ John Chancellor, NBC-TV journalist, is doing well after heart surgery, his secretary said Monday.

Chancellor, who will be 63 on July 14, underwent a double-bypass operation on Wednesday at Columbia Presbyterian in New York. He is expected to be sent home this weekend, said a spokeswoman at NBC.

Chancellor, who does commentary on the "NBC Nightly News" three times a week, was its anchorman for 12 years. Before that, he anchored the "Today" show. He has worked for NBC News since 1950, save for 1965 and 1966, when he was director of the Voice of America.
