Dr. W.W. Kersey Jr., age 70, died Wednesday, July 4, at his home after a short
illness. He was born at Bluefield, W.Va. and was the son of the late W.W.
Kersey Sr. and Bess Ratcliffe Kersey. After graduating from Bluefield High
School, he attended Bluefield College and the University of Richmond before
receiving his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1944.
After serving overseas in the U.S. Medical Corps during World War II, he began
his practice of medicine at Bartley, W.Va. He moved to Peterstown, W.Va. in
1955 where he established and continued his practice of medicine until shortly
before his death. He was a member and past president of the Peterstown Rotary
Club, director of the Bluefield AAA Club, director of the First National Bank
of Peterstown, a member of the American Medical Association. He was a member
of the American Academy of General Practice, a life member of the American
Academy of Family Physicians, and was of the Methodist faith. He was preceded
in death by his first wife, Margueritte Johnson Kersey, M.D. Surviving are his
wife, Gene P. Kersey; one son, W.W. Kersey, III, Peterstown, W.Va.; one
daughter, Margueritte K. Carman, Morgantown, W.Va.; a stepdaughter, Donna
Akers, Narrows, Va.; stepson, Wayne Peck, Peterstown, W.Va.; a brother, Donald
M. Kersey Sr., Bluefield, W.Va.; a sister, Betsey Ann Kersey, Bluefield,
W.Va.; four grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at
the Broyles Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown with the Rev. John Sauvage
officiating. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Park Cemetery at Bluefield,
W.Va. Pallbearers will be E.K. Boggess, Bobby Dillon, Randy Morrison, Burl
Compton, Tony Noble, Paul Wagner, Keith Boggess; honorary pallbearers, Dr.
John Sproles, Gene Shuff, Otto Whittaker, and members of the Peterstown Rotary
Club. Friends may call from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In
lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mary Babb
Randolph Cancer Center, West Virginia University School of Medicine, 510
Medical Center Drive, Morgantown, W.Va., 26506.
